City News:

Bedford 4th Picnic and Fireworks Reminder

We hope you’re getting excited to celebrate Independence Day with us at the Bedford 4th Picnic and Fireworks Show! On Monday, July 4 from 5 to 9:30 p.m., we’ll be hanging out at Old Bedford School with The Inspiration Band, playing lawn games, and digging into delicious food. Then at 9:30 p.m., we’ll cap off the night with a fantastic fireworks show.

The fireworks will be 200-feet higher (similar to last year) AND the show will be synchronized to music, which can be listened to starting at 9:30 p.m. on KNON 89.3.

Parking will be available for the general public in the grass lot across from Bedford City Hall, Building C (1805 L. Don Dodson Blvd.), beginning at 4 p.m. Parking is $10 per car, cash only. There will be no shuttle service available. Only handicap parking is available at the Bedford Public Library, 2424 Forest Ridge Dr. A handicap placard or tag is required. Check out www.bedfordtx.gov/fourthofjuly for additional details on parking, road closures, food trucks, and the picnic.

Fireworks are Illegal within City Limits

Just a reminder, private fireworks are prohibited within City limits! The use or possession of fireworks is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,000. Instead, leave the fireworks to the pros this weekend!

Pet Reminders for July Fourth

Hey Bedford! We know you’re getting excited for the holiday weekend, but please keep your neighbors and pets in mind when thinking about setting off fireworks (it’s also illegal within City limits). Here are a few tips to make sure your furry family members are safe and comfy this July Fourth:

  • Keep pets secured inside your home.
  • Make sure pets have access to their favorite spots and a safe place to hide.
  • Use ambient noise to mask the noise of fireworks, like leaving a TV on or the radio playing.
  • Try using a Thundershirt to help with anxiety or keep your pet busy with their favorite toys.
  • Keep your pets collar on with ID tags
  • If your pet is microchipped, make sure the microchip company has your current address and phone number.
  • If your pet goes missing, contact Bedford Animal Services at 817-952-2191 during business hours. For after-hours, contact the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 817-952-2127 (ext. 0 for Dispatch). Try notifying friends and neighbors in the area as well via Facebook or Nextdoor.

July Fourth City Closures

All City of Bedford offices, including City Hall, Municipal Court, Library, Animal Shelter, and Old Bedford School, will be closed Monday, July 4 in observance of July Fourth. Roy Savage Pool at Central Park will open noon to 5 p.m. (regular hours) for open swim.

Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services will remain in operation at all times. There will be NO delay in the collection of trash, recycling, or bulk materials.

Municipal Court Backpack Drive

The City of Bedford Municipal Court is now accepting a donation of $100 in new backpacks as an alternative to help clear outstanding warrants. In exchange, Municipal Court will give a $100 credit toward the defendant’s balance and removal of warrant status with 30 days to make their next payment.

Donations must be dropped off at Municipal Court, 2000 Forest Ridge Dr., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All new backpacks (with tags still on) must include the original purchase receipt, showing at least $100 was spent. Backpacks will be donated to HEB ISD and donations will be accepted through Friday, August 5. For additional information, call 817-952-2152. Please note, the City reserves the right to refuse donations of items that are unacceptable for student use.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend!
